† pyne doublet Sc. Obs. [First element is obscure; cf. py- or pee-doublet, pee n.1] Supposed to be the same as jack n.2 1 b, a quilted and sometimes iron-plated doublet or coat of fence.

Earl Gowry 61 Mr Alexander [Ruthven] being almost on his Knees, had his Hand upon His Majesty's Face and Mouth; and his Majesty seeing the Deponent, cry'd, Fy! strike him laigh, because he has a Pyne Doublet upon him. 1849J. Grant Kirkaldy of Gr. iv. 35 A breastplate, a jack or pyne doublet were usual parts of everyday attire. |
