capnomor Chem.|ˈkæpnəʊmɔː(r)| [f. Gr. καπνός smoke + (?) µόρα, Doric for µοῖρα part.] A colourless transparent oil of peculiar smell, one of the constituents of smoke, obtained from wood-tar.
1838T. Thomson Chem. Org. Bodies 736 Capnomore..was discovered by Reichenbach,..and was so named by him..because it exists in the smoke of organic bodies. 1863–79Watts Dict. Chem. I. 741 Capnomor is contained, together with creosote and another oil, in the portion of wood-tar which is soluble in potash. |
