1953Jrnl. Amer. Med. Assoc. 12 Sept. 175/1 Since 1948, a pyridine homologue of neostigmine (Pyridostigmine), was given a therapeutic trial in 23 patients with myasthenia gravis associated with pseudoparalysis. Results of animal experiments..showed that Pyridostigmine is five times less toxic than neostigmine. 1961D. Dunlop et al. Textbk. Med. Treatm. (ed. 8) 875 Myasthenia Gravis... The drug which is most generally useful is pyridostigmine bromide, B.P.C. (Mestinon)... Pyridostigmine gives a very satisfactory smooth control with few parasympathomimetic side-effects, and the long action without sudden withdrawal effects makes it particularly suitable for treatment during the night. 1980Sci. Amer. Apr. 38/2 Reversible inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase such as pyridostigmine (administered by means of pills swallowed a short time before nerve-gas exposure) may improve the prognosis. |
