pyrophosphatase Biochem.|paɪrəʊˈfɒsfəteɪz, -s| [f. pyrophosphate s.v. pyro- 3 a + -ase.] Any enzyme which hydrolyses pyrophosphate esters or ions, or pyrophosphoric acid; inorganic pyrophosphatase, an enzyme capable of hydrolysing the free acid or its ions, liberating orthophosphate.
