1. Philos. The doctrine that the senses are the sole source of knowledge; sensationalism.
1803Edin. Rev. I. 264 The more inviting system of sensualism, in which all knowledge is supposed to consist of original impressions from without. 1832Linberg tr. Cousin's Introd. Hist.
