catananche Bot.|kætəˈnæŋkiː| [mod.L. (Linnæus 1735), f. L. catanancē plant used in love potions, Gr. κατανάγκη, f. κατά down + ἀνάγκη compulsion.] The name of a genus (Catananche) of herbs of the family Compositæ with blue or yellow flowers; a plant of this genus.
