Severan, a.|sɛˈvɛərən, ˈsɛvərən| [f. the L. cognomen Sevēr-us (see below) + -an.] Of, pertaining to, or characteristic of the Roman Emperor (Lucius) Septimius Severus (reigned a.d. 193–211) and, more generally, of the period of rule of the dynasty established by him (a.d. 193–235).
