Supp., Chapelet, in the manege, a couple of stirrup leathers, mounted each of them with a stirrup, and joining at top in a sort of leather buckle, called the head of the chapelet, by which they are made fast to the pummel of the saddle, after being adjusted to the rider's length and bore.1847in Craig; and in mod. Dicts.
2. Hydraulic Engineering. A chain pump composed of pallets, scoops or buckets attached to an endless chain passing over two axles. So called in French from its resemblance to a rosary or string of beads; whence, also, according to Knight, known as a ‘paternoster pump’.
