‖ cheˈlingo, -a [In mod.F. chelingue; quoted by Yule from Valentijn as chialeng, and by him identified with Arabic shalandī, which is app. the mediæval chelandium, χελάνδιον: see Du Cange. (But this is not certain.)] A kind of large boat used on the Coromandel Coast; see quot. 1790.
