chemokine, n. Immunol. Brit. |ˈkiːmə(ʊ)kʌɪn|, |ˈkɛmə(ʊ)kʌɪn|, U.S. |ˈkimoʊˌkaɪn|, |ˈkɛmoʊˌkaɪn| [‹ chemo- comb. form + -kine (in cytokine n.).] Any of a family of small proteins which have a variety of effects on immune function, including a chemoattractant effect on white blood cells, and have similar primary structures featuring a motif of four cysteine residues.
