chrysene Chem.|ˈkraɪsiːn| Also chrysen. [ad. F. chrysène (A. Laurent 1837, in Ann. de Chimie LXVI. 137), f. chrys- + -ene.] A solid hydrocarbon, C18H12, occurring in crystalline form in the highest boiling fractions of coal tar, and in other substances, variable in colour and exhibiting violet fluorescence.
