Clarisse|klæˈriːs| [Fr.] a. The French name for a Poor Clare. b. A nun belonging to that branch of the order of St. Clare which follows the original rule, as distinguished from the Urbanists who follow the mitigated rule approved by Pope Urban IV in 1264. (Also occas. Clarist and Clarissine.)
