1. Bot. A sieve-like plate on the wall of a plant-cell. (Cf. sieve n. 7 b.)

Sachs' Bot. 24 The sieve-plates do not at present show anything of the subsequent more complicated structure. 1882Vines ibid. 89 In this condition the septum, perforated by a number of pores, is termed a Sieve-plate; it is usually broader than the diameter of the tube, which therefore appears dilated at..the sieve-plates.
