codamine Chem.|ˈkəʊdəmiːn| [ad. G. codamin (O. Hesse 1870, in Ann. d. Chem. u. Pharm. CLIII. 56), f. codeia + amine.] A crystalline phenolic alkaloid, C20H25NO4, present in opium in small quantities.
1871Jrnl. Chem. Soc. XXIV. 1064 Codamine is found to melt at 126°, instead of 121°, and has probably the composition C20H23NO4. 1965Jrnl. Pharm. Sci. LIV. 1531/1 Very little is known about the physical and chemical properties of naturally occurring codamine, and there is no evidence that it has ever been prepared since the work of Hesse. |
