[‹ the name of William Coffin Coleman (1870–1957), U.S. businessman and inventor, who began selling lamps in 1900.] 1. attrib. A proprietary name for: any of various items of camping equipment and supplies; Coleman fuel n. any of several similar liquid fuels consisting of mainly naphtha and aliphatic hydrocarbons in approximately equal proportions, used for camping stoves and lanterns.
