[comˈpearer [f. compear + -er.] One who compears. Form and meaning app. unauthorized.
1861W.Bell's Dict. Law Scot., Compearer. A party not called as a Defender in an action, but who conceives that he has an interest to oppose the action, may compear and claim leave to sist himself. If his claim is sustained, an interlocutor allowing him to sist himself is pronounced, and is designated as Compearer. [Not in earlier or later edd.] Hence in Ogilvie (Annandale) and Century Dict.] |
