contabescent, a.|kɒntəˈbɛsənt| [mod. ad. L. contābēscent-em, pr. pple. of contābēscĕre to waste away, be consumed. Introduced as a botanical term by Gärtner, Beiträge zur Kenntniss der Befruchtung (1844) 116.] Wasting away, atrophied; in Bot. characterized by contabescence.
