A. adj. Of, pertaining to, or belonging to any of several Algonquian-speaking Indian peoples of northern New England and the Maritime provinces; some or all of these peoples collectively.

a. (A member of) any of these peoples, distinguished by specialists as the Western Abenaki, the Eastern Abenaki, and the Abenaki (or Wabanaki) Confederacy (whose core members were the W. and E. Abenaki, the Maliseet–Passamaquoddy, and the Micmac).
b. Either of the Eastern Algonquian languages of the W. and E. Abenaki, or both taken as a subgroup or undifferentiated.
