solonetz Soil Science.|ˈsɒlənɛts| Also -nez, -nietz. [ad. Russ. solonéts salt marsh, salt lake, f. sol′ salt.] A type of alkaline soil that is rich in carbonates, consists characteristically of a hard, dark, columnar subsoil overlain by a thin, friable surface layer, and occurs in conditions similar to those associated with solonchaks but having better drainage.
