▪ I. ˈcopping, n. [f. cop v.1 + -ing.] †1. A top-knot or curl of hair; called dial. a topping. Obs.

North’ (Halliw.). Cf. cop n.2 6. ▪ II. ˈcopping, vbl. n. [f. cop n.2 3 + -ing.] Spinning. The formation of ‘cops’ of thread. Used attrib., chiefly in the names of parts of the machine connected with the formation of the ‘cops’, as copping-beam, copping-part, copping-rail, etc.
