Mitchell Acharn. of Aristoph. 121 note, The soubriquet of gapers appears to have been attached to the citizens of Athens. 1867Trollope Chron. Barset II. xlix. 57 Her name was Susan, but he had always called her Posy, having himself invented for her that soubriquet. Hence ˈsoubriquet v. trans., to nickname.
