spadaite Min.|ˈspɑːdəaɪt| [ad. G. spadait (F. von Kobell 1843, in Jrnl. für prakt. Chem. XXX. 467), f. the name of Lavinio Spada de Medici (1801–63), Italian writer, politician, and mineralogist: see -ite1.] A hydrated magnesium silicate, MgSiO3.2H2O, found as an alteration product in lavas, and occurring as amorphous masses coloured red by impurities.
