(Linnæus filius Supplementum Plantarum (1782) 41), f. the name of Andres Sparrman (1748–1820), Swedish traveller + -ia1.] A large hairy shrub of the genus Sparmannia (family Tiliaceæ) native to southern Africa, and bearing toothed heart-shaped leaves and clusters of white flowers, esp. S. africana.
