spectinomycin Pharm.|ˌspɛktɪnəˈmaɪsɪn| [f. mod.L. spect-ābilis visible, remarkable (see spectable a.), + -mycin.] An antimicrobial substance obtained from the fungus Streptomyces spectabilis and used esp. to treat gonorrhœa that is resistant to penicillin.
