croconic, a. Chem.|krəʊˈkɒnɪk| [f. L. croc-us saffron + -on (meaningless) + -ic.] In croconic acid (C5H2O5), an inodorous, strongly acid substance, obtained in the form of yellow crystals or powder. Hence ˈcroconate, a salt of this acid.
