Gr. σπληνο-, combining form of σπλήν spleen n., employed in a number of pathological and anatomical terms, as spˈlenocele, (see quot.); ˈsplenocyte [-cyte], one of the mononuclear leucocytes formerly thought to be characteristic of the spleen; spleˈnography, spleˈnology, spleˈnorrhagy, spleˈnotomy (Craig, 1849; cf. F. spléno-cèle, -graphie, etc.); ˌsplenohepatoˈmegaly [hepato-; cf. splenomegaly] = hepatosplenomegaly s.v. hepato-; spleno-lymphatic, -medullary, -myelogenic, etc.; splenomeˈgalia, -ˈmegaly [Gr. µεγάλ-, µέγας large], enlargement of the spleen; hence splenoˈmegalic a.; ˈsplenopexy [-pexy], surgical fixation of a wandering spleen; ˌsplenoporˈtography [ad.
