a. Any cell of the neuroglia.
1894P. A. Fish in Jrnl. Compar. Neurol. IV. 175 As a convenient correlative spongiocyte may used for the glia or neuroglia cell.
b. Any cell of a type found in the zona fasciculata of the adrenal cortex, whose cytoplasm contains droplets of lipid which when removed give the cell a spongy appearance.
