1947H. C. Elliott Textbk. Nerv. System xiii. 157/1 Like the dorsal gray column, the spinal V nucleus has a dorsolateral substantia gelatinosa, the relay nucleus for pain fibers, and a more central spongiosa for touch fibers. 1949New Biol. VI. 73 If we take a bone such as the thigh⁓bone (femur) and saw it in two lengthways, we find that the two ends near the joints consist of a spongy lattice (spongiosa) while the shaft is a hollow tube of dense bone (compacta). 1954T. L. Peele Neuroanat. Basis Clinica Neurol. v. 79/1 The ‘body’, or spongiosa, is subdivided into a ventrally placed basal part adjoining the intermediate gray columns, a dorsally placed ‘cervix’ or neck, and a ‘caput’ or head. 1966Lancet 31 Dec. 1430/1 Histological sections..confirmed the increase in trabecular bone in experiment 11. The increase was striking in both primary spongiosa..and secondary spongiosa. 1982Calcified Tissue Internat. XXXIV. 425/2 Osteoclasts in the primary spongiosa near the growth plate were the first to incorporate 3H-TdR. |
