sporidesmin Biochem.|spɒrɪˈdɛzmɪn| Also sporo-. [f. mod.L. Sporidesmium, generic name of the fungus from which the first such substance was isolated (H. F. Link 1825, in D. C. L. Willdenow Linnæus' Species Plantarum (ed. 4) VI. ii. 120), f. sporidium (or spori-, comb. form of Gr. σπορά spore) + Gr. δεσµ-ός band, bundle: see -in1.] Any of a class of toxins that are produced by fungi and cause various diseases of animals, esp. sheep, when ingested.
