cyanelle, n. Bot.|saɪəˈnɛl| Also cyanella (pl. cyanellæ). [a. G. Cyanelle (coined by A. Pascher 1929, in Jahrb. f. wissensch. Bot. LXXI. 387), f. cyan- + -elle, -ella, after zoochlorella, etc.: see -el2.] A cyanobacterium living symbiotically inside the cell of a protozoan or the like.
