The study of cytology and genetics in relation to each other; esp. the study of the behaviour and properties of chromosomes as the constituents of cells that determine the hereditary properties of an organism. So cytogeˈnetic, cytogeˈnetical adjs., of or pertaining to cytogenetics; cytogeˈnetically adv.; cytogeˈneticist, one who studies or pursues cytogenetics.
