A son of a tsar. (Superseded, after the time of Paul I, by velikiĭ knyaz′ ‘Grand Duke’, lit. ‘great prince’. The eldest son or hereditary prince had the differentiated title cesaˈrevitch, -witch, Russian tsesarevich, formed on tsesar′ Cæsar, emperor.)
