1864Boutell Heraldry Hist. & Pop. xiv. §1 (ed. 3) 160 The ‘daunces’ are equivalent to a group of fusils conjoined in fesse across the shield, which is sometimes blazoned as a ‘dancette’ or a fesse dancettée.
