OF. darrain, derrein (still in various F. dialects dérain, darain, etc. = F. dernier):—late L. *de-retrānus hinder, f. de retro (whence F. derrière) behind.] Last, ultimate, final; = dernier. darrein presentment: the last presentation to an ecclesiastical benefice (as a proof of the right to present): see quot. 1760. darrein resort: = dernier ressort.
