A river, about 3,000 km (1,900 mi) long, rising in southwest Colorado and flowing generally south through central New Mexico to southwest Texas, where it turns southeast and forms the US-Mexico border for the rest of its course. It empties into the Gulf of Mexico near Brownsville, Texas, and Matamoros, Mexico.
