Black Hawk Originally Makataimeshekiakiak. 1767-1838.
Sauk leader. A noted warrior, he fought with the British against the Americans in the War of 1812, opposed Keokuk's policies of accommodation with the US government, and was defeated in a brief conflict with US troops known as the Black Hawk War (1832).
