(sĭ-thîrə, sĭthər-ə) also Ky·thi·ra (kēthē-rä′) An island of southern Greece in the Mediterranean Sea south of the Peloponnesus. Southernmost of the Ionian Islands, it was the chief center for the worship of Aphrodite.
