(də-mäzhē-ō, -măjē-ō), Joseph Paul Known as "Jolting Joe" or and "the Yankee Clipper." 1914-1999. American baseball player. A center fielder for the New York Yankees (1936-1951), he is considered the best all-around player ever at that position. In 1941 he hit safely in 56 consecutive games.
