Traditional markets such as pit props, then motorway fencing, disappeared long ago, and more recently the last pulp mill using this material closed.

Construction of a pulp mill began in 1947 and was operating by 1951.

The main uses of the wood produced are elemental chlorine free pulp mill production (for cellulose and paper), sawlogs, plywood and bioenergy (thermoelectric generation).

The largest of its endeavors, a pulp mill, was bought by them in 1913 but which had been in existence since 1790.

The company's pulp mill opened in the cove in 1954.
