It was the site of the first tide-operated rice mill constructed in the state (c. 1792).

A rice mill was built and a post office opened.

It has an electrical substation and a rice mill on the outskirts.

The village also houses a small modern rice mill creating direct and indirect employment to a few villagers apart from agriculture.

This building was constructed in 1861 to replace a rice mill that had burned the previous year.
