Some remote sensing scientists have proposed using the measurement of the radiance coming from vegetation canopies in those bands to characterize plant health status from a satellite platform.

Using sensitive radiometers, such as those on-board satellite platforms, one can measure carefully the wide array of colors emerging out of the ocean.

This means that images from two satellite platforms with different orbits can not be compared, and for a given satellite data from the same orbital track must be used.
