The first building was a primitive structure, without floor, with split log benches for the worshipers, and without heating facilities.

They were mostly one teacher, one-room log houses with split logs for seats.

Theirs were built with logs or split-log frame, and covered with split log planks, and sometimes an additional bark cover.

One of these enhancements replaced the vertical split log siding with board and batten.

The big issue was whether the split logs should be piled bark down or bark up.
