Started her sporting career at age six, she produced numerous age group and meet records in all swimming strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly).

Such control may be with the legs (e.g. association football), hands (e.g. basketball), stick (e.g. field hockey) or swimming strokes (water polo).

Many triathletes use altered swim strokes to compensate for turbulent, aerated water and to conserve energy for a long swim.
