A community trust was set up to pay for projects needed in the area - such as schools, a maternity clinic and a maize mill.

The hospital has 13 departments, including internal medicine, surgery, gynaecology/maternity clinic, urology, neurology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, anaesthetics and intensive care and ambulant surgery.

Afterwards he worked at the maternity clinic for midwives until 1853.

He left the post discouraged of what was then regarded as an enormous mortality rate at the maternity clinic.

He worked to continue updating the hospital, and oversaw the development of a new maternity clinic, kitchen, and most importantly, the recruitment of specialists to provide dialysis and physiotherapy.
