Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: a- prefix6, genesic adj.
Etymology: < a- prefix6 + genesic adj. In sense 1 after French agénésique (P. Broca 1859, in Jrnl. de la physiologie de l'homme et des animaux 2 235, originally in hybridité agénésique ); compare earlier agennesia n. In sense 2 after agenesis n. N.E.D. (1884) gives the pronunciation as (ædʒėne·zik) /ædʒɪˈnɛzɪk/.
1. Unable to reproduce; sterile; infertile; (also) preventing reproduction. Now historical and rare.
