Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: a- prefix6, genesis n.
Etymology: < a- prefix6 + genesis n., after French agénésie (1824 or earlier in this sense).With the α. forms, which are directly after French agénésie, compare -ia suffix1. N.E.D. (1884) gives the pronunciation as (adʒe·nėsis) /aˈdʒɛnɪsɪs/.
Pathology.
Failure of development, or incomplete development, of a part of the body.
