单词 cellarer
释义

cellarern.

Brit. /ˈsɛl(ə)rə/, U.S. /ˈsɛlərər/
Forms: Middle English cellerere, Middle English selerar, Middle English selerere, Middle English–1500s celerer, Middle English–1500s cellerer, Middle English–1500s selerer, Middle English–1600s cellerer, 1500s sellerar, 1500s–1600s celerere, 1500s–1600s cellerar, 1500s– cellarer; also Scottish pre-1700 salrar, pre-1700 sellerar.
Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Partly a borrowing from French. Etymons: cellar n.1, -er suffix1; French cellerer.
Etymology: Partly < cellar n.1 + -er suffix1, and partly < Anglo-Norman celerer, cellerer, selerer (c1240 or earlier; compare Old French, Middle French celerier , Middle French cellerier , French (now rare or historical) cellérier (late 12th cent.)) < classical Latin cellārārius person in charge of a cellar (2nd cent. a.d.), in post-classical Latin (also as cellerarius ) also officer in a monastery in charge of the cellar (6th cent.) < classical Latin cellārium cellar n.1 + -ārius -ary suffix1.Compare Old Occitan cellarer (c1160), Catalan cellerer (end of the 12th cent. as †celarer ), Spanish cillerero (early 12th cent. as †cellerero ), Italian cellarario (first half of the 14th cent.), †celleraio (12th cent.); also Middle High German kellære (German (now regional (Central, Rhineland) and rare) Keller ); the usual German word is Kellerer (Middle High German (in late sources) kellerer ), thus avoiding homonymy with Keller cellar n.1). The following apparently shows a modern summary of an original document, and apparently shows use as a surname:1221 in R. E. G. Kirk Feet of Fines Essex (1900) I. ii. 59 Richard, Abbot of Straford [sic], by Robert the Cellarer, his monk.
Now historical.
The officer in a monastery, great household, or the like, charged with the storage and distribution of provisions. Cf. cellar n.1 1.south-, sous-, subcellarer: see the first element.
