Origin: Formed within English, by derivation, perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Celt n.1, -ization suffix.
Etymology: < Celt n.1 + -ization suffix, perhaps after French celtisation (1851 or earlier). Compare earlier Celticize v. and later Celticization n.Compare also German Keltisierung (1844 as Celtisirung , now rare) < keltisieren ( < Kelte Celt n.1 + -isieren -ize suffix; compare ) + -ung -ing suffix1.
The action or fact of making something Celtic in character or form; the process of becoming Celtic or acquiring Celtic characteristics. Cf. Celticization n.
