Etymology: < Celto- comb. form + -phile comb. form, probably after French Celtophile (1852 or earlier; 1578 in Middle French as the name of a character in a work by Henri Estienne).Quot. 1867 translates a letter which was probably written in French; the original text of this letter has not been traced.
A person with a passionate interest in the Celtic languages or Celtic studies; a lover of or enthusiast for the culture, history, etc., of Celtic-speaking nations or regions.
