Origin: A borrowing from Arabic. Etymons: Arabic al-ḥājj; Arabic al-ḥajj.
Etymology: In sense 1 < Arabic al-ḥājj < al the + ḥājj person who has undertaken the Hajj, also a title given to such a person < ḥajj to perform the Hajj. In sense 2 < Arabic al-ḥajj < al the + ḥajj Hajj n. With sense 1 compare Haji n., and also Alhaji n.
